African Bee Ecology Network (ABEN) is a federally incorporated Canadian not-for-profit organization working at the intersection of science, conservation, and sustainable enterprise. We are committed to advancing environmentally responsible beekeeping practices and strengthening pollinator ecosystems across Africa.
Through research partnerships, habitat restoration, capacity-building programs, and international collaboration between Canada and Africa, ABEN supports smallholder beekeepers and promotes inclusive participation in environmental innovation. We believe pollinator protection is not only an environmental priority — it is a social and economic opportunity.

African Bee Ecology Network (ABEN) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting bee conservation, pollinator protection, biodiversity preservation, and sustainable community development. Through research, education, advocacy, and partnerships, we work to safeguard bee populations and the ecosystems upon which both nature and people depend. ABEN is a growing network of beekeepers, researchers, conservationists, educators, and community leaders committed to protecting bees and promoting sustainable environmental stewardship across Africa and beyond. We believe that healthy bee populations are essential for food security, biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihoods. By supporting bee-friendly practices and strengthening community capacity, we contribute to a healthier planet for present and future generations.

Pollinators Power Food Systems, Biodiversity & Climate Resilience
Pollinators are foundational to global food security, ecosystem stability, and sustainable agriculture. Bees and other pollinators contribute to the production of crops that feed millions and support biodiversity across landscapes.
Yet, pollinator populations face increasing threats from habitat loss, climate change, and unsustainable land-use practices.
ABEN addresses these challenges by:
By protecting pollinators, we strengthen communities, enhance livelihoods, and build resilient ecosystems for future generations.
